National/International Recognition Award (NIRA) scholars

Kevin Sutherland, Ph.D. and Yaoying Xu, Ph.D., both of the VCU School of Education Department of Counseling and Special Education, were honored yesterday as part of the inaugural class of National/International Recognition Award (NIRA) scholars.

The newly established award celebrates VCU faculty members who have garnered national or international recognition for their outstanding achievements within the current evaluation period.

Selected from recommendations by each dean, winners stand out for their exceptional performance within their academic units.

Virginia Commonwealth University President Michael Rao, Ph.D., recognized the inaugural winners of the award at the 2024 State of the University address.
