Bio

Kendra Johnson, Ph.D., has extensive experience and expertise in urban education and the sociology of education. Dr. Johnson believes that positive radical changes for students begins with a radical shift in teacher education and preparation. Her research interrogates questions related to race, gender, and class dynamics in teaching and learning vis-à-vis policy and power structures. She also maintains an active research agenda centered on the experiences of Black women teachers and educational leaders. Dr. Johnson earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Education with a concentration in Curriculum, Culture, and Change from Virginia Commonwealth University. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications from Hampton University and a Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Johnson is a former elementary school teacher, leader, and DEI professional who continues to work in education to serve learners and practitioners from historically underrepresented communities.
